Do you have used electronics that have taken up permanent residence in your basement or closet? Is the console television that hasn't worked since the Carter administration being used as a stand for your new flat panel television?
If you answered yes to either of the following questions it may be time to get rid of those obsolete pieces of electronics. As of January 1, 2012, it will be illegal for anyone to dump used electronics into landfill operations.
Secure Recycling Services, a division of Kreider Services and located at 1117 Warp Road in Dixon (next to Borg Warner), is a recognized collector, recycler and refurbisher of electronic waste (e-waste) in the State of Illinois. Residents may drop off used or obsolete electronic items (see list):

9:00 a.m.—2:00 p.m.
Secure Recycling Services is not able to accept all e-waste. For a list of electronics not currently accepted please call (815) 288-1602.
In the future, Secure Recycling Services may be able to accept white goods (washers, dryers, etc.). But at the present time Secure Recycling Services is not able to take those items.
Secure Recycling Services has 24-hour surveillance. Violators who illegally dump electronic equipment (or other items) at Secure Recycling Services will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
